•         A mega musical extravaganza in Bangalore on 16th February 2011 at Tripura Vasini, Bangalore Palace from the top most talented K.J.Yesudas is organized on the occasion of his 71 birthday that coincide with the 50 years of prolific career in Kannada film music.
•         The golden man of Kannada cinema Dr Girish Kasaravalli has been awarded the ‘Padmasri’ among the four Kannadigas this year on the eve of 62 Republic Day of India. The communication came on Tuesday evening from the central government.
•         At the gala evening in Bidadi Innovative Film City on Saturday evening the handsome hero Yash and charming beauty Haripriya are receiving the Rotary awards.
•         MYLARI 50 - The former union minister and 200 plus films highly popular Ambarish, Raghavendra Rajakumar, Bhasker producer of 101st film of hat trick her Shivarajakumar ‘Lakshmi’ Kannada film and Bharani Minerals, Mahalakshmi layout MLA Ne La Narendra Babu, music director Gurukiran, director R Chandru, producer R Srinivas, Sanjana, Sadashiva, Basha, Santoh Hegde of Narthaki theatre were present on the dais.
•         The University of Southern California, Los Angeles bestowed with honorary doctorate of Humane Letters for the prestigious personality of Karnataka Dr Girish Karnad. Dr Girish Karnad the Jnanapeeth award winner is a popularity personality in south Indian films.
•         The senior journalist of Lankesh Patrike, director of ‘Prarthane’ Kannada cinema author of books on Shivarajakumar, Upendra, V Ravichandran, Dr Vishnuvardhana also known for walk the talk with top stars in ETV Kannada Sadashiva Shenoy, senior colleague of over three decades of experience in film and news photography K.N.Nageshkumar received the honors ‘Hamsarathna’ award.
•         HEMA MALINI TO RS FROM STATE - The dream girl of Indian cinema Hema Malini has been elected against Dr Maralu Siddappa a literary personality. Out of 200 votes she bagged 106 votes and her opponent got 94 votes.
•         The melody best in film playback singing and classical music Dr KJ Yesudas has been awarded SV Narayaswami Rao Memorial National award. This award was instituted by Sri Rama Seva Mandali of Shankarapuram, Bangalore. This award carries Rs.50000 and citation. This is given for the expertise in classical music.
•         The second year Dr Rajakumar ‘Souhardha Award’ of Rs.1 lakh and felicitation will be bestowed on – Shani Mahadevappa, Choreographer Devi and character artist Bengaluru Nagesh. The just come in news from Raghavendra Rajakumar the key person of Dr Rajakumar Empire.
•         ‘Simply Kail-awesome’ by MG Srinivas has bagged the Platinum Remi Award. TP Kailasam is awesome no doubt about it. But the short film on Kailasam by top producer SV Babu is amazing. This 45 minutes tribute to TP Kailasam – Simply Kailawesome by MG Srinivas donning the main role with another top actress Chaya Singh being a part of this short film is interestingly made with good technical expertise added to it.
•         The real star Upendra with ‘Super’ success all these days was crowned the ‘Karnataka Adipathi’ at the 125 days celebration of ‘Super’ Kannada cinema.
•         The Raghavendra Chitravani award for producer goes to BM Venkatesh, noted producer and two eminent journalists Ganesh Kasargod and BN Subramanya share the awards.The awards presentation coincide with the 34th year of Sri Raghavendra Chitravani annual celebration on 29th of this month at The Bell Hotel at 5.30 pm
•         CP Yogishwar won from the Channapatna constituency with a comfortable margin of 17803 votes defeating JDS Nagaraj. The congress party lost deposit in Channapatna constituency.
•         Shaky in his chair as KFCC President Basanthkumar Patil is reeling in happiness now. Out of five awards the prime two awards went o producer Basanthkumar Patil productions – Bettada Jeeva and Hejjegalu. One is environment award and the other is best children film award. His previous films ‘Naayi Neralu and Gulabi Talkies’ were also award winning films.
•         Jnanapeeth Award winner late Shivarama Karanth ‘Bettada Jeeva’ novel getting certificate at the national level after 50 years of writing it is a welcome.
•         Veteran cameraman of Kannada cinema living in Chennai son of doyen of Kannada cinema R Nagendra Rao was felicitated in a simple and touching function by the Karnataka Cinematographers Association.
•         For the national award winning films at the 58th year and 2008-2009 Karnataka state award films the ‘Chitra Samooha’ consisting of serious film makers, analysts etc honored on Saturday evening in the presence of doyen of literature Dr SL Byrappa.
•         The popular actor in character roles Vijyanath Biradar has got the international acclaim for his Yeeraiah role in Dr Girisi Kasaravalli’s ‘Kanasembo Kudureyaneri’. At Madrid in Spain Imagine India International film festival Biradar has won the ‘Golden Wheel’ award. This has come as a big solace for Biaradar who is seen in all kinds of roles on Kannada screen.
•         The veteran actor of over 40 years on stage, big screen and small screen the state award winner Sunder Raj is now Dr Sunder Raj.
•         According to highly placed sources the century hero Shivarajakumar is the winner of 58th Film Fare Award that is announced in International Convention Center at Hyderabad on Saturday night.
•         The prestigious theatre group in Mysore ‘Rangayana’ that has given many actors to Kannada cinema is now headed by Kannada actor in comedy roles Mandya Ramesh.
•         The Guinness Record holder at the young age of 13 for his direction of ‘Care of Footpath’ and many more accolades at the national and international level Master Kishen hold another great record.
•         Century hero Shivarajakumar was presented a silver sword by the AKila Karnataka Shivarajakumar Sena Samithi on Monday night at the felicitation for his another hat trick – 25 years of film life, 25 years of married life and 100th film ‘Jogaiah’.
•         The Kannada film actor, producer CP Yogishwar who won the last by election on BJP ticket was sworn in as Forest Minister in the DV Sadananda Gowda cabinet after the change in the state leadership.
•         The Bharathiya Janata Party government appointed senior Kannada film producer Vijayakumar as chairman of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation.
•         The producers of ‘Parie’ team for the audio release honored the veterans Geethapriya and Rajan with lot of respect and the seeds sown by elders were rightly remembered. The two veterans were crowned Mysore Peta, garland, shawl, fruit basket and mementoes were given in ‘Mora’ (the tradition plate)
•         The pride moment for Kannada literature as Dr Chandrasekhara Kambara the 74 years gets the nation’s highest literary award ‘Jnanapeeth’. After 11 years another Kannada literary giant gets this crown. In 1998 Dr Girish Karnad got the prestigious award and now for 2009 Dr Chandrasekhar Kambara a man with multifaceted talent gets the crown. Dr Chandrasekhara Kambara is the 8th Kannadiga to get this crown. It is highest for Karnataka in the country.
•         The screen sizzler Ragini, upcoming actor Pankaj Narayan, talented music director and tasteful still photographer of Studio-Xpoz, Giridhar Diwan got the ‘Rising star award’ for their contribution.
•         Barring the film media that regularly cover the cinema assignments this year Dr B Saroja Devi award was bestowed on Dr Vyjayanthimala Bali the famous Indian actress on Thursday at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan.
•         The well known rebel writer, Kannada film director Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa who has left a strong stamp in the art film category gets the prestigious Tippu Sultan Award for his merits. Akila Karntaka Mohamadiyara Kannada Vedike for the first time is honoring the writer cum director. The award consists of Rs.10000 cash, citation and trophy.
•         Indian Panorama - Kannada film ‘Bettada Jeeva’ national award winning film as best environmental film and special mention for the story of Jnanapith Award winner Dr Shivarama Karanth is the only selection.
•         The annual Alvas Nudisiri prestigious award for 2011 has been announced. Dr Srinath, BK Sumithra, BT Lalitha Naik and Prof Nissar Ahmed all connected to Kannada cinema gets the prestigious award.
•         From Kannada cinema industry veteran producer and distributor AR Raju (Phalke committee recognition winner), Sarigama Viji, director K Shivarudraiah are the recipients of the prestigious Rajyotsava awards. From Kannada film journalist fraternity GS Kumar senior assistant editor at Times of India has recognized for his meritorious service in the last 28 years. GS Kumar has been the film critic of Kannada films.
•         The screen charmer actress Ramya alias Divya Spandana has been crowed the prestigious award at the international level. The award is given by World Economic Forum and it is very prestigious ‘Global Shaper 2011’ award.
•         It was ‘Shiva’s regale time’! Shivarajakumar lead ‘Shiva Riders’ representing the Kannada Film Producers Association defeated Sudeep lead Dancers Association by a margin of 20 runs on Monday evening final match. Shivarajakumar team scored 138 runs in 15 over match against Dancers Association. Shiva Riders defeated Dancers Association by 20 runs.
•         In recognition of multifaceted talent of gentleman actor and director Ramesh Aravind  and his service in the cinema industry of over 25 years will be honored at London by a private organization.
•         The film ‘Lucky’ on the South African Julu language speaking tribal film is also made in Hindi and English got the best actress award for B Jayasri at the Abhu Dhabi International film festival.
•         Dr Srinath and Dr Bharathi Vishnuvardhana were felicitated with lifetime achievement awards and ailing actor Akki Channabasappa was given financial reward on the rain soaked Bengaluru Palace Gayathri Vihar. The program was immediately canceled and it was the first film function of new Karnataka chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda. The prestigious Government of Karnataka award of Golden Berunda by international jury Rs.10 lakh and citation went to Avie Luthra and produced by Christopher Wilmot ‘Lucky’ that features Kannada actor and theatre personality Jayashree. It is a South African Zulu language film. Best director award of Golden Berunda of Rs.5 lakhs was bagged by Feo Aladag for the movie ‘When We Leave’(German), while the Jury Special Mention Award went to the Chinese film ‘No 89, Shimen Road’ directed by Hoolun Shu. Under the Asian Cinema Section, the Netpac Award went to the Sri Lankan film ‘Flying Fish’ directed by Sanjeewa Pushpa Kumara, and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. Chitrabharati –– ‘Nobel Chor’ directed by Suman Gosh bagged the award and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, while ‘Gandhi Smiles’ directed by Krish Joshi and ‘Puttakkana Highway’ directed by B Suresha jointly bagged the award under the Kannada Cinema Section. ‘Chintu School,’ directed by Sheshgiri Yelameli got the Jury Special Mention award.
